Advent Carol Service 2019

Recorded on
Sunday, 1 December 2019

This week's webcast is our own recording of the Advent Carol Service, broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 on 1 December 2019.

The service includes a selection of readings, prayers and music for the season of Advent.

The Advent Carol Service traditionally features a premiere of a new work commissioned by the Master and Fellows of the College. This year, our commission was Judith Bingham's Introduction to Hark, the Glad Sound! with words taken from the hymn that immediately follows it, with a written-in organ playover. The Choir is joined by undergraduate music student Ignacio Mañá Mesas playing the soprano saxophone. Also included in the service were two previous St John's Advent commissions: Jonathan Harvey's The Annunciation, and Michael Finnissy's John the Baptist.
