11 November 2018 - Choral Evensong

Recorded on
Sunday, 11 November 2018

This evensong on Remembrance Sunday includes music by Lennox Berkeley and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

'Lord, thou hast been our refuge' was composed after Vaughan Williams returned from the First World War, in which he served as a wagon orderly. The anthem's dramatic conclusion - a unifying plea for peace - reflects the composer's yearning for consolation in a world forever changed by war.
