02 May 2017 - Choral Evensong

Recorded on
Wednesday, 6 September 2017

From the archives, this webcast of Choral Evensong features Cyril B. Rootham's Evening Service in E Minor and Neil Cox's setting of Psalm 17:8, 'Keep me as the apple of an eye'. In this service, Psalm 122 vv. 6-7 is sung to a setting by Herbert Howells following the Preces in the place of a more typical chanted Psalm.

Cyril B. Rootham and Herbert Howells share the distinction of having been Organists at St. John's during the twentieth century, the former from 1901-1938 and the latter from 1941-1945.
