From the archives, this webcast of Choral Evensong features Adrian Batten's Fourth Service and an eight-part setting of Ave Maria by Alonso Lobo.
Alonso Lobo (1555 - 1617) studied at the University of Osuna, after having trained as a choirboy at Seville Cathedral. He then returned to Seville to take up the role of assistant to the maestro de capilla, Francisco Guerrero. After a brief stint as director at Seville, he then moved to Toledo Cathedral where he spent the rest of his life as director of music.
