This week's webcast features Michael Tippett's striking Evening Canticles, commissioned by St John's College in 1962 for its 450th anniversary celebrations.

Michael Tippett (1905 - 1998) rose to prominence around the time of the Second World War, in which he wrote one of his best-known works, A Child of our Time.  Tippett was particularly interested in the Trompetta Real stop which had recently been added to the St John’s organ, with its trumpets protruding at a 45-degree angle from the casework.
