Memorial Service for Professor Sir Christopher Dobson

Recorded on
Saturday, 25 January 2020

This service paid tribute to and celebrated the life and work of Professor Sir Christopher Martin Dobson, who was Master of St John's from 2007-2019. Chris will be deeply missed by all members of and supporters of the Choir, and he will be remembered as a kind and brilliant man, with a quick wit and a welcoming character.

The Choir is joined by the harpist Anne Denholm, the violinist and Old Johnian Julia Hwang, and cellist and Director of Music of St John's Voices Graham Walker. The arrangement of the Mahler was written by Iain Farrington especially for the service, previously an Organ Scholar.

Winner of the 2008 Ivor Novello Award for classical music, Jonathan Dove CBE has composed a broad range of works and is one of the most successful British composers today.

Jonathan was kind enough to share insights into his St John's Service, the compositional process, and what we can look forward to in the future.
