Choral Evensong - 05 July 2017
This webcast of Choral Evensong is the final men's voices service of the academic year, with music by Hassler and Cornyshe.
William Cornyshe the Younger (1465 – 1523) was an English composer, dramatist, actor, and poet. Little is known about his life, but sacred works appear in both the Eton and Caius Choirbooks accredited to William Cornyshe. He also produced secular vocal music, and the notable English sacred anthem Woefully arrayed. However, there is uncertainty as to whether these pieces, especially those found in the Eton Choirbook, are William Cornyshe's or his father's. The traditional ascription of all the works to Cornysh junior is the one more generally accepted. However, the possibility that the Eton works are the works of a generation earlier remains, and has interesting implications if true.
