Advent Carol Service 2015

Each year, the Advent Carol Service is broadcast live on BBC Radio  3 from St John's. This webcast is our own recording of the same service.

The service includes a selection of readings, prayers and music for the season of Advent.

The Choir sang a version of the plainsong melody 'Creator of the stars of night' arranged by John Scott, a former Organ Scholar at St John's, who died earlier this year. Reflections on his life and career can be found here: http://www.sjcchoir.co.uk/news/john-scott-1956%E2%80%932015-organ-student-1974%E2%80%931978

The Advent Carol Service traditionally features a premiere of a new work commissioned by the Master and Fellows of the College. This year, Tim Watts, also a Fellow of the College, was ask to compose an Anthem and wrote a setting of Hartley Coleridge's poem 'The Birth of Speech'. The setting included two violin parts which were performed by Julia Hwang and Stephanie Childress, both undergraduates at St John's.
