15 November 2020 Evensong

Recorded on
Sunday, 15 November 2020

This service, sung by the men's voices of the choir, includes John Sheppard's responsory 'In Pace in idipsum'. Sheppard wrote English-texted music under the Protestant reign of Edward VI (1547-1553), and Latin-texted music - including the setting heard in this service - during Mary's Catholic reign (1553-1558). He died in December 1558 - a victim of an influenza pandemic.

The subject of the Sermon in this webcast is the painting 'Mary Magdalene' by Savoldo, and a link to an online reproduction of the painting can be found here: https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/giovanni-girolamo-savoldo-mary-magdalene
