This service includes music by two great English composers writing 300 years apart.
Lennox Berkeley's Chichester service was first performed at evensong at Chichester Cathedral on July 26th 1980 by the combined choirs of Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals.
Henry Purcell's 'O sing unto the Lord' is a triumphant, ceremonious anthem for solo bass, four-part verse and chorus. It is a relatively late work, written in 1688, seven years before Purcell's death (21 November 1695).
